Haley Gancel

Environmental Scientist

Haley comes to us from the University of Florida’s West Florida Research and Education Center, where she was a Postdoctoral Associate in the Soil and Water Sciences Department. Her research involved synthesizing datasets and available literature and facilitating community input to help Pensacola and Perdido Bays Estuary Program, Choctawhatchee Bay Estuary Program, and St. Andrew and St. Joseph Bays Estuary Program develop their respective Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plans (CCMP).

Haley earned her B.S. in Marine Biology from the University of Miami, FL. She then went on the University of South Alabama/Dauphin Island Sea Lab to complete her Ph.D. in Marine Sciences. During her time at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab, she spent time working on questions related to how humans influence water quality and the sustainability of Alabama oysters. Additionally, she was involved with the Manatee Sighting Network and Alabama Marine Mammal Stranding Network, where she helped conduct marine mammal research.

Haley will be responsible for helping develop and draft the program’s first CCMP and monitoring program. She will also be involved in planning and executing projects identified in the CCMP. In her spare time, Haley enjoys traveling, hiking, reading, cooking, and camping with her husband and daughter. Haley can be reached at 850-595-0896, or click on one of the options below.
